Compare last Sunday's projected track of Tropical Storm Fay with this map showing locations that actually experienced tropical storm winds. Not only did Fay a) never become a hurricane and b) completely miss the Tampa Bay area, the storm affected every part of the state EXCEPT Tampa Bay. The forecast ended up being almost the exact opposite of what actually happened, which tells me that the teams of meteorologists and millions of dollars worth of computer models responsible for this forecast were as reliable as the opinions of three guys picked at random from the Maryland Heights ball park after about a half dozen beers.
In this case, we predicted the path of a hurricane...err, tropical storm over the course of six days with 0% accuracy. Yet, we're somehow able to prove with 100% certainty that Earth's average temperature will continue to rise over the next 100 years. Moreover, we know definitively that human activity is entirely responsible for the increase, and if you don't believe it, you're either a moron, living under a rock, or in the pockets of Big Oil, though the earth has been cooling and warming on its own for millions of years before the invention of the SUV. I wish we could use those same computers to help me figure out if we need to cover our windows with plywood.
